The laptop lifestyle seems glamorous - until your neck, back, and wrists start to ache.
I'm pretty minimalist overall, but there are a handful of items I've purchased for my office that have done wonders for my productivity, posture, and mood. People often ask what I use, so below is a roundup.

Remote Work Setup - My Non-Clinical Office
If you're going to be at your computer most of the day, the setup should support your health and wellness. Since I used to treat office workers for injuries from sitting at computers all day, I know a decent setup is essential. (I never had a dedicated desk while working clinically, I used any laptop available or a charting station in the hospital hallway - so a tiny office with a few essentials is a HUGE upgrade!)
Sit to Stand Desk
Prolonged sitting leads to all sorts of back problems and even digestive/pelvic floor issues. Our bodies are designed to stand and move, so a desk that allows you to do that is a non negotiable. Decide if you want a free-standing desk or if you want something that sits on top of your existing desk/table and can raise/lower.
Also... get an electric one with memory presets. You're more likely to change positions more often when it's EASY. It's worth the extra money.
Here's a 40x20 inch desk very similar to the one I use:
If you have a larger space or tend to lean on your desk a lot, I recommend a sturdier desk like the ones below.
Next up, a nice, wide mouse pad for your desktop.
Since my desk has a glass top, my mouse won't work without a mousepad, but this also keeps my coffee warmer and gives my wrists a little padding. These are also called "gaming mouse pads" sometimes and come in a variety of colors to match your style.

Keep your feet warm at your desk with a foot warmer
This is one of my absolute favorite items in the fall and winter. I have the most basic, flat pad, but if I were to choose again, I would buy one that doubles as a foot rest to get a little calf stretch while warming my feet.

My favorite chair for remote work as someone who can't sit still... the Pipersong chair

Sitting in a normal chair like a "normal" person has never been my style. A business mentor mentioned this chair during a mastermind event when we were both sitting with our legs tucked up under us. It isn't cheap, but it's worth every penny!
I have the chair pictured above, but they have since made a padded seat with adjustable arm rests. It looks amazing.

Remote work essential if you live up north... a mood light
The days are short in Washington in the winter. Having a mood light (or two) has helped my mental health and energy significantly.
Mood lights also help with overall lighting during video calls, so it's a double-win. Here are a few options:

I'll add more items as I think of them, and if there's something specific you're looking for, send me a message on Instagram and I'll get back to you.
Invest in a Decent Work From Home Office Space
I started my business with an old laptop at the dining room table. I tried my hardest not to spend money on my business unless it was ABSOLUTELY necessary.
But, eventually, I realized I was having neck pain, elbow paid, and nerve impingement. As an OT, I knew EXACTLY what was causing all of my issues.
So don't wait as long as I did to invest in an office setup that sets you up for success!
